About

Inspired by community fridge projects near us like Free99 Fridge in Atlanta and Macon Community Fridge, Milly Free Fridge started organizing in February 2021. While working out host site details we hosted pop-up farmer’s markets during the summer of 2021 at Hardwick Baptist Church, Second Saturday downtown, and the Milledgeville Juneteenth celebration at Central City Park.

In October 2021 our permanent location at Kathie’s Tax Service opened. By January 2022 the community support grew to sustain a full size fridge at that location. In Spring 2022 our second permanent location opens at Wesley Chapel AME Church. Additional hosts have come forward and we hope to open even more locations by summer 2022!

We look forward to spreading the community fridge model around Milledgeville to grow our mission of neighbors helping neighbors.

Jess McQuain

Jess McQuain (she/her/hers) is a community organizer, communications coordinator, and ordained wedding officiant. She moved to Milledgeville from Centralhatchee, GA in 2012 to attend Georgia College and in 2017 moved to the Georgia coast but didn’t even last a year before returning to Milledgeville. Jess lived with food insecurity as a teen and college student which instilled a strong belief that EVERYBODY deserves access to fresh foods. She enjoys gardening and loves sharing what she grows with others.

Stephanie Jett

Stephanie Jett (she/her/hers) works as an Assistant Professor of Psychology at Georgia College & State University. She moved to Milledgeville in August of 2017. Her work with Milly Free Fridge was inspired by her strong belief that food is a right, not a privilege and that community should support community. Growing up in a Midwestern (Mom) and Southern (Dad) household, food was comfort, love, and home. Helping to feed people is a way for her to bring a bit of that love, care, and comfort to her neighbors.

Natalie Mau

Natalie Mau is a graduate student at Georgia College and State University, where she is completing her Master of the Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing with a concentration in poetry. She attended Georgia College for her undergraduate career, as well. During her time in Milledgeville, she has developed a deep love and appreciation for this community. It is because of this love and appreciation that she chose to get involved through the Milly Free Fridge.

Jolene Cole (Web Coordinator)

Jolene Cole (she/her/hers) works as an Assistant Professor of Library Science at Georgia College & State University. Originally from Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, she's been a member of the Milledgeville community for a little over a decade. Jolene loves to travel but doesn't nearly get to do it enough. Being a mom of two young girls, she wants to demonstrate the many ways neighbors can help neighbors. Milly Free Fridge was one of the first activities she could do with her girls, and the website work has been an extension of that initial interest.
